The
Basics of Patchwork Crochet |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
Beginning
a Round:
In most of the motifs you are asked to
chain a few stitches, join them with a
slip stitch into a ring, then to chain a
few stitches to bring the hook up to the
height of the stitches that will be made
into the ring. These chains are
considered to be the very first stitch of
the "round". |

Ending
a Round
When
all the stitches of a round are
made, the first and last stitches
of the round are joined with a
slip stitch. As specified in the
motif's instructions, insert hook
into the top chain of the initial
chain-3 or chain-4 made, and pull
thru a loop, then pull the new
loop thru the loop on the hook,
thereby making a slip stitch. |

Fastening
Off:
Fastening off (or cutting the yarn) is
done at the end of a round when the next
round is to be made with a different
color yarn, or at the very end of a
motif. After working the slip stitch to
join the round, chain 1, cut the yarn
leaving a 3" end, then pull the
3" end through the chain. Pull the
cut end to tighten the chain-1 into a
knot. |

Weaving
Ends Through
Back of Work:
All cut ends of yarn hanging from
a motif must be woven into the
wrong side so that the piece will
have a neat clean look.Thread the
cut end of the yarn into a
large-eyed, blunt tapestry
needle. On back of the work, run
the needle through the top loops
of 2 or 3 stitches once, then
again through other stitches in
the opposite direction. Trim
close to the work when done. |

Sewing
Completed Motifs Together:
Place one motif on top of another, right
sides together. Thread a tapestry needle
with matching color yarn. Attach yarn at
one corner of motif, weaving it through
back of stitches. Then overcast the edge
stitches of both motifs together, picking
up only one thread from each stitch on
each motif's edge. Work to other corner.
Secure yarn by weaving it through back of
work. Cut yarn close to work. |
