DECORATE YOUR HOME WITH CROCHET
Some quick and easy crochet ideas for lovely decorative accessories
This is the era of instant decorating, of HGTV and other home shows where designers are challenged to very quickly transform homes from boring to trendy and exciting. We are always so impressed by the end results and by the use of imagination and skill. It all seems so “instant” and effortless. Pillow with crochet square applique

We too can accomplish similar results - by finding ways to use our craft skills and focus on quicker, smaller projects rather than large ones, at least for a while. For instance, those of us who crochet can add instant charm to our homes. One way is to decorate store-bought pillows with crocheted “appliqués”, panels, and edgings.

Mass merchandisers stock ready-made pillows in many colors and textures. As for yarns, any texture is acceptable, so long as it complements the pillows and the look of the sofa. For instance, if selecting velveteen or chenille pillows, find a textured yarn.

You can select any granny square pattern on this web site and crochet, for instance, 9 motifs of the same pattern, sew them together into one large square and then onto the ready-made pillow. Some patterns that would be ideal are as follows: Granny and Beyond, with 6 granny patterns to choose from, or Medley of Grannies, containing 15 DIFFERENT MOTIF PATTERNS TO CROCHET!

The ideas shown on this page involve the classic look of crocheted Victorian lace, and use thin cotton thread and a fine crochet hook.

Those crocheters looking for a bigger challenge can make the 3 doily pillows shown on the right. These crocheted pieces can be sewn onto any store-bought pillows. To get a more eclectic look, select pillows that have NO ruffles, just a thick corded edging, and do the crochet pieces in yarn color that is ecru or tan rather than white. Besides pillows, there are many other decorative items to crochet. For instance, a doily or a runner along a table top is a great way to impart that old-world Victorian look to your home.

Strips of crocheted motifs can be constructed and then sewn onto drapery valances and even made into cafe curtains. There are also edgings that can be easily crocheted and sewn onto ready-made home accessories. Here are some interesting and inspiring crochet stitch, and completed crochet project "visuals".
